Calling all digital creatives! Two funding rounds launched last week giving opportunities to develop and market innovative and entrepreneurial ideas.

The Culture Tech Fund will provide up to £5000 (each) grant funding for innovative new projects which combine cultural and artistic output with digital technology. The fund is open to any organisation or freelance professional based in Derry (county or city) or working with a Derry-based partner and is an ideal opportunity for collaborations between digital media companies and local arts and cultural organisations.  For more information check out the Digital Derry website.

The Creative Industries Innovation Fund, run by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, with funding from DCAL and supported by Northern Ireland Screen and Digital Circle, provides assistance to companies-including craft, design, software developers, publishing, film, and music organisations- at critical times in their business and product development.

A new round of funding will give priority to companies committed to developing export focused activity, cross-sector collaboration and businesses which can harness the innovative and entrepreneurial potential of the region’s cultural and arts sectors. Digital content projects from all sections of the creative industries are also encouraged.

The Creative Industries Innovation Fund is providing seed funding to plug skills gaps and encourage growth within this important sector.  Through the programme, local creative enterprises are also offered the opportunity to be partnered, by the Institute of Directors, for business mentoring support. Bruised Fruit were thrilled to be invited to the MTV EMAs along with our client Starboy Nathan. The awards and the performances were amazing, my personal favs being Jessie J and David Guetta. After hooking up with Rizzle Kicks and Sami backstage we walked the red carpet right after David Hasslehoff (who is a lot taller than he looks!)

After a few drinks with Belfast’s best DJ Hix at the show itself, it was on to the afterparties to hang out with LMFAO, Selena Gomez, Justin Beiber and Hayden Panettiere at Belfast’s MClub were both Nathan and LMFAO performed.

Next onto the Europa hotel to meet up with Katy B, Wretch32 and Jessie J’s posses where the champagne didn’t stop flowing. The food at the afterparty was typically Irish – fried potato bread and roast spuds!

All in all it was an amazing night, and fantastic to see so many people enjoying what Belfast has to offer.

This years Belfast Music Week provides an exciting programme of live shows, industry workshops and panels, exhibitions and unique events in the lead up to the MTV EMAs.

Our very own Northern Irish Music Awards are taking place tonight (Wednesday 2nd November) at the Ulster Hall.  Co-hosted by AU Magazine and the Oh Yeah Music Centre, the NIMAs are set to bring together the established legends of Northern Irish music and the best new acts for an evening of celebration and much deserved recognition.  With performances from Stiff Little Fingers, And So I Watch You From Afar, General Fiasco, Japenese Popstars and very special guest appearances it promises to be a very special night.

UnConvention Belfast is the event we’re really looking forward to.  Two days of networking, panels and discussion with industry professionals and music fans taking place at Spring & Airbrake on the 3rd & 4th November.  Topics up for discussion are; succeeding through failure, are London’s streets really paved with gold?, your band – the brand, becoming your own label and many more.  We’ve also added B.Y.O.D (Bring Your Own Demo) to the Thursday networking, giving you a chance to get instant, honest feedback on your tunes.  Registration is now closed, but places are still available for you to come along and register on the day. It kicks off at 3pm on Thursday and from 10am on Friday.

Before the big event takes place on Sunday, the Limelight complex are putting on Belfast Calling.  The event will be led by Belfast-based Starsailor frontman James Walsh.  He will be joined by an aray of local talent, including Mojo Fury, VerseChorusVerse, Yes Cadets and many more.  Over 30 acts will play acoustic sets across 8 stages with all proceeds going to the Alzheimers Society.  Tickets available via the link above.

The MTV EMAs will be taking place live from the Odyssey on Sunday 6th bringing a star studded line up to Belfast and  none other than our very own Starboy Nathan will be in attendance.  Keep an eye out for him on the red carpet!
